Consultative Meeting for the Establishment of Regional Knowledge Network of Telecentres in Central Asia

Telecentre operators, government officials and representatives from development agencies from seven Central Asian countries will meet in Baku, Azerbaijan on 6-7 May 2008 to discuss the establishment of a network of telecentres in Central Asia. 
 
The meeting will be organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). ESCAP is inviting relevant telecentre stakeholders from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, to contribute with information regarding their telecentre projects.

The meeting is part of an inter-regional project entitled "Knowledge Networks Through ICT Access Points for Disadvantaged Communities", which aims at empowering disadvantaged communities, women in particular, through providing them with information/knowledge for their social and economic development. Ultimately, this project will establish knowledge networks of telecentres to strengthen their capacity to provide, develop, organize, share and disseminate information leading to sustainable development in marginalized communities.
