A community is formed by people, common interests and as many different points of views as individuals. telecentre.org is no exception.
As a member of this community I feel committed to participate, to share my perspective, to help in some way that benefits all the community.
Although since July 2007 telecentre.org embraces me as part of the team I still feel humble and timid to write or express firm opinions about telecentres as a whole. The reason behind is quite simple I still have much to learn and understand about this community, about the people that makes possible the daily access to the information and communications technologies for those who have less opportunities in this world.
But from now on as part of an effort to share and exchange ideas and information you will see my thoughts in the form of a blog, where I will express my opinions, feelings and experiences about the community.
Much needs to be said, to be learned, and to be done. Hopefully this in one step forward…

Improving access in urban Africa, lets talk

The telecentre.org community is really a great group. I would however like to call upon members to innoovative in their approach, for example why is there so little talk about inproving accessing urban areas of Africa for example? Why are we tallking so little about commercial approaches of improvong ICT access? We could learn a lot from microfinance, including the mission drift that occurs as a result of commercialisation. Africa is expanding very rapidly, many people who need acccess to ICT are now in urban areas. Read more...
