The Department of the Interior and Local Government is seeking part of the P1-billion e-governance fund for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) projects by the Commission for Information and Communications Technology (CICT).
The funds will be used to put up a Local Government Units’ data center, to give local governments’ access to Information Technology resources.
Speaking on the sidelines of the "Edges thru ICT: Enhancing the delivery of Government eServices through ICT", lecture-forum, Maria Teresa Camba of the National Computer Center said the DILG’s initiative for the data center was recently proposed to the CICT.
Though she declined to give any details, Ms. Camba said this project is meant to give LGU’s access to information and improve their services.
CICT Chairman Ray Anthony Roxas Chua III said the e-governance programs will "improve the constituents" interaction with the government."
Ms. Camba said another government department that has submitted a proposal for grants from the CICT for e-governance projects include the department of energy.
