ICTs MANAGEMENT SKILLS WORKSHOP MOTIVATES COMMUNITY

The just ended ICTs Management Skills Workshop conducted by TTN at Sengerema telecentres from 6-8 July, 2008 has increased awareness of ICTs role in facilitating social and economic development for individuals and institutions in Sengerema district.

The presence of more than 30 participants from different nationalities and regions attracted attention of the public and had a keen follow-up of the events of the workshop. They could see and inquire about movements of experts and groups composed of technicians visiting several places of Sengerema township in the course of the Wireless Mesh network Project survey.

The community as a whole received the teams with greetings encouraging them to do their work relaxed because they are happy and waiting to enjoy the advantages of their work, particularly, internet connectiovity.

The press, radio and televisions added colour to the event. The community had been reading, listening and seeing on TVs deliberations at the workshop and the expected advantages

Opening and closing ceremonies of the event went on air live by radio Sengerema and covered by BBC, This helped greately to improve enthusiasm of the community on the importance of Sengerema telecentre for their development and life.

The knowledge that the Wireless Mesh Network plans to connect The Head office of the Sengerema District Council and its subdivisions (Wards), Secondary Schools, Health Centres and entrepreneurs around the Wards crowned it all.

Our gratitude to TTN, IICD, Ugabytes, government of Tanzania, workshop participants and all that were involved to realise the success of the workshop.

Implementation of phase I of the project will take place in October 2008. This is a milestone in the Sengerema telecentre's 10 years plan to make Sengerema district a model in ICTs to other districts in ths country.
