SENGEREMA TELECENTRE DEVELOPS A KNOWLEDGE HUB

Sengerema Telecentre has developed a Knowledge Hub which will have seven sections,

  1. The Knowledge Room
  2. Radio Sengerema
  3. Internet Café
  4. Conference hall
  5. Internet connection to institutions and individuals
  6. User groups data bank
  7. Site visits to best practices in the community
1.1 The Knowledge Room

The Knowledge Room will comprise 6 sections namely, Information park- to have books, newsletters, and all materials parked in shelves for all economic and social developmental activities, characterized by community segments like, women, children, youth, elderly, disabled, talents , entrepreneurs and artisans Secondly, there will be a digital library- all library materials to accessed from a big capacity computer. Thirdly there will be video shows on various educational and sensitization activities from recorded video cassettes. The fourth section will be screen projected shows to individuals, institutional staff and students. Also TOT will be conducted here. The fifth section will local content developed by user groups on several disciplines like, morals, historical backgrounds etc and the sixth section will be a computer with internet for surfing.

 



2.1Radio Sengerema

Radio Sengerema will collect and broadcast information on, Economic programmes like, farming, animal husbandry, fisheries etc. social programmes, educational programmes and religious programmes, programmes on local and foreign events.

3.1Internet café

In the Internet café the community will access information on issues important for implementation of activities and improvement of standard of living. Also learning and training information and data.

4.1Conference Hall

The Hall is equipped with equipment and materials for knowledge sharing, discussions and deliberations, like, power point projectors, white boards, projector screens.

5.1 Internet connection to Institutions and individualsThe Wireless Mesh Network project is in place to connect Sengerema District Council with all of its Subdivisions (Wards) and Secondary Schools. Implementation will take place in October 2008. This will enable the community to access Central and local government data, reports and decisions. Also enable communities at village levels to access internet All entrepreneur groups around every Ward will be empowered to use the internet facilities connected at respective Wards. 6.1User groups data bank:

User groups working with Sengerema Telecentre are collecting data and information and repackaging the information to create content for telecentre and community use. e.g The elderly has so far developed documents on morals and historical events

7.1Site visits to best practices:

Sengerema telecentre has identified best practices in the community like, farmers, fishermen, and talents. The community will be organized to visit to these sites to learn and share knowledge
