TTN PLANS FOR JULY 2008-2009 ACTIVITIES

TTN Board Meeting on 8th July 2008 resolved among others to carry out 6 activities between July 2008 and June 2009.The first activity will be Technical ICT Training (5 days intensive wireless networking training for technicians) and Wireless Internet Pilot installation  in Sengerema to take place in October 2008.Aimed at equipping technicians with knowledge to manage the Sengerema telecentre Wireless Mesh Net work Project and acquire knowledge for implementation of wireless networks in other telecntres in Tanzania.The second activity will be evaluation of the TTN Wireless Mesh Network Project Pilot Project implemented in October 2008 at Sengerema Telecentre. To take  place in April 2009. Aimed at examining various technical and non-technical issues such as; 1. Investigate and measure bandwidth that is coming in, 2.The price structure and its relevance to people's usage of the service. 3. How many PCs are logged. 4. Determine actual utilization of each user. 5. What factors determine the cost of a package 6. How can a client reduce its monthly bandwidth costs. 7. Trend of fluctuations of speed. 8. To locate managers of the service and if they can provide utilization statistics. 9. How does clients determine amount of bandwidth they require. 10.  Which option has a high influence on package choice. 11. Hardware makes and model of satellite 12. The kind of application priority protocol and bandwidth is allocated to each application. etc.The second activity will be hosting the 7th EATLF in May 2009. TTN plans a state-of-the-art event  and scale up the event to attract more participation from ICTs practitioners within and outside the region with the view to enhance telecentre family efforts towards sustainability of telecentres and networks in the region.The third activity will be participation and support of TTN in the ICT4RD exhibitions and Forums promoted by Sengerema Telecentre to take place concurrently with the 7TH EATLF during the week long celebrations of the World Communications Society Day (11-17.May, 2009). The event aims at demonstrating the potential of ICTs in development and improving standards of living for rural communities. Participation expected from; all members of TTN, government and ICT practitioners within and outside Tanzania including, tc.org, ugabytes, IICD, UNESCO, ITU, IDRC, ICTs related institutions and individuals, researchers and policy makers Expected outcome is to enable telecentre practitioners to trace and discover the secrets of success.The fourth activity will be training on Radio Management. It will involve Managers and radio staff to provide them with knowledge and encourage telecentres in Tanzania to include radio programmes in telecentre activities due to the potential of radio in information delivery to rural communities in developing countries. Planned to take place between July-October 2009The Board also, resolved that efforts be made to facilitate training for Board members and Management work with Ugabytes/telecentre.org on obtaining a volunteer for research and development activities of TTN, Also develop modalities for content development and packaging activities.
