What you propose is a challenging idea “ Global-e-conference” . Incidentally, many of the summits and conferences are being replaced by e-conferences. This is a new trend much like teleconferencing which is being implemented by a lot of companies since it enables them to cut cost tremendously.

I am aware of telecentre.org only but I am certain that there are many telecentre networks operating on a country by country basis addressing the very same issues. Than there is also telecentre Academy, a Academy that will be a institute designed specifically to address issues relating to telecentre operators and they will provide training and issue certification to qualified operators. It is a global network partnership between major corporate sponsors, governments and telecentre networks.

Perhaps what is required is a analysis and evaluation of telecentre.org site as it is the global network platform for telecentre operators. Based on the findings, a supplementary site can be created to address the shortcoming of this network. For example, while there are many telecentre networks operating in different countries, telecentre.org does not have a database of these networks. How will telecentre.org members be able to tap into such a vast resource? Where are the best practice and case studies? Is there a panel of experts and industry veterans who can provide insight and guidance ? is there a team to critically research, analyze and compile value added case studies and best practices that can be made available to members? I think that telecentre.org Academy is the right choice. More information on the academy would be welcome.

Niranjan, your preposition is very good. It brings together people regardless of strategic location and also cuts down costs involved in travel. As Wangchuk has put it, many summits today are taking on e conferencing instead of the traditional ways of getting together.

Telecentres can take this up too as a means of sharing knowledge and experiences. This way, it will be easier to learn from each other around the globe. Also, people involved have instant access to each other. This can also be used in instances of help desks; where telecentres can use online chats like Skype to get to solve problems of their communities/ people with in their vicinities.

Sri Lanka will be hosting e-ASIA on Dec 2-4 and we expect many telecenter leaders will come to Sri Lanka (New) .

It is our idea to reserch this on 6-7 December in Sri Lanka
Everything is a challange for us. But we will do it and learn.

We need 8-12 Telecenter Leaders to rotate the conference arund the world.

Hello you all,

this is a very interesting issue. It should be easy to find the way of meeting and talking between us (or just sharing content as a conference) using ICT. Actually we should be the ones who push these kinds of iniciatives.

As I posted some weeks ago, taking profit of the International Internet Day, we made an exchange talk with people from Zambia. It was short and we assumed it was a only a pilot, a presentation to start the contact, but it was interesting for all the persons involved.

We only need the topic, an agreement of dates and hours... and that's all! Should be nice to assure the presence of expert people who act as a leader of the conversation... just to keep the direction and the rythm of the session.

www.oovoo.com is a good video conference system that allow group meetings.
Well, let's think further... It is just a suggestion...

I sometimes thought this idea will fade off, Now I think it's the future of knowledge sharing. We have whole 5 months, I hope more people will join before we actually plan logistics.

In Sri Lanka skype is the main stream for conferencing and it's free, One draw back is sometimes it's slow for multiple videos. I have tested audio with 12-15 people conferencing and found no problem;

few challanges we face
1. Agreement of common Technology and standards (skype, oovoo etc)
2. Addressing language problem to make grass roots take part (live translation to English)
3. Share and rotate conference ownership around the world to run it for 48 hours.

We think wider audience can see it through webTV and Listen to webRadio
Lots of R & D, we still wait for more people
