New Chairman appointed, 6 new BOT members endorsed

Akhtar Badshah, Senior Director of Global Community Affairs for Microsoft Corporation USA, has been unanimously elected the new Chairman of the Board of Foundation following a Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting held during the 3rd Global Forum on Telecentres in Santiago, Chile last April 5, 2011. Of his appointment, Mr. Badshah says, “I welcome the opportunity to take on this role as a reflection of our continuing support of I am excited about the future of the Foundation as a global leader in expanding access to technology for individuals and strengthening communities through the power of information and communication technologies.”

During the same board meeting in Santiago, six new BOT members were also appointed, namely, Mr. Jose Avando Sales (representing Latin America and the Caribbean Network), Mr. Sherif El Tokali (representing the Middle East and North African Region), Mr. Reshan Dewapura (of the Asia Pacific Telecentre Network), Ms. Rita Mjumbi (representing NetAfrica), Ms. Gabriela Barna (of Telecentre-Europe), and Ms. Rebecca Masisak (of TechSoup Global). All six were members of the International Advisory Council.

The addition of new Trustees from the regional telecentre networks was done six months earlier than originally planned in order to include their participation in ongoing strategic planning and decision-making. The other Trustees remain, Rich Fuchs as Vice-Chair, Willy Reyes as Treasurer, Tess Camba as Secretary and Ivan Uy, Florencio Ceballos, Tim Diaz de Rivera, and Damien Mapa as members at large.
